Q. What initially attracted you to recruitment for your next career step?

A. “I predominantly had experience in Hospitality & Retail and was looking for a new career challenge with a better work-life balance. I had heard about how great careers in recruitment were from family and friends in the industry, and I knew that the environment was very different to what I had previously been in which was exciting for me. The opportunities for career progression and personal growth were an added bonus too!”

Q.  In your opinion, what skills or characteristics make a person successful in the recruitment industry?

A. “Confidence. This one is at the top of my list as the most important characteristic. Even if you don’t have extensive knowledge of a particular industry or topic, having confidence allows room to grow and learn. Secondly, I would say quick thinking and the ability to process situations on the spot are vital, regardless of the challenges you may face. Lastly, positive thinking and resilience can bring you great success. Whilst recruitment is extremely rewarding, it can also be challenging, and you simply have to take one bad day and make the next one better without giving up”.

Q. What advice would you give to the person who doesn’t know if recruitment is for them?

 A. “If you are unsure about recruitment, I would suggest doing some research. This can involve looking at a few different companies and checking out their websites, or even their social media platforms, to see what their company culture is like and how recruitment looks on the outside. To dig a bit deeper, enquire with local companies and their internal talent teams, asking about day-to-day responsibilities, expectations, and work ethic to see if their values seem like the right fit for you”.
