Blueprint Recruitment is looking to speak with experienced Design Managers who are interested in joining a leading water contractor on a permanent basis! Our client is looking for a passionate and driven Design Manager to take the lead in delivering innovative and impactful clean water design projects, with occasional involvement in wastewater schemes.

This is an exciting opportunity to spearhead a variety of projects, working with talented multidisciplinary teams and ensuring exceptional outcomes for clients.

Key responsibilities

  • Take lead responsibility for design projects during the outline design, detailed design, and construction support stages.
  • Directly manage a multidisciplinary team of design engineers to deliver outputs aligned with client specifications and standards.
  • Engage and manage specialist external design resources as needed.
  • Prepare and agree on fee proposals and project schedules while managing resources to meet financial and program targets.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive programme for all design projects, effectively managing client expectations.
  • Conduct site scoping and survey visits to gather necessary information for design development.
  • Ensure all designs comply with quality assurance procedures.
  • Review, audit, and approve technical reports, designs, and drawings, ensuring adherence to health, safety, legal, and environmental standards.
  • Present technical data and project outcomes to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Maintain consistent design input throughout the project lifecycle, from feasibility to construction and handover.

Key requirements

  • Degree in an engineering discipline.
  • AutoCAD design skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Project for programme management.
  • Proven experience in a similar role, ideally within clean water projects.
  • Familiarity with multidisciplinary design principles.
  • Strong decision-making skills with accountability and integrity.
  • Team player with the ability to mentor others and achieve business objectives.
  • Strategic thinker with a problem-solving mindset.
