Design Manager (MEP Contractor)

A leading MEP main contractor is seeking an experienced Design Manager to support the installation stage of a major project. This role suits a senior, technically strong individual with a hands-on design background who can take full ownership of on-site design coordination.

The Role

You will be responsible for managing and driving all areas of MEP design through the install stage, acting as the key technical authority between consultants, subcontractors, and site teams.

Key Responsibilities

·         Lead and manage the full MEP design process during the installation phase

·         Coordinate consultants and subcontractors to ensure compliant, buildable designs

·         Act as the main technical point of contact for design-related matters on site

·         Review and challenge designs to ensure quality, coordination, and programme alignment

·         Lead design meetings and resolve technical and coordination issues

·         Support site teams with technical queries and design changes

Key Requirements

·         Chartered or highly qualified engineer with a strong design background

·         Proven experience in a Design Manager or senior technical role

·         Background at Associate Director or Technical Director level within a consultancy is highly desirable

·         Experience with Tier 1 contractors and complex projects preferred

·         Data centre project experience ideal, but candidates from other complex sectors will be considered

·         Excellent communicator, confident managing multiple stakeholders

·         Comfortable working full-time on site in Romford
