You've built the technical experience. Now you want the opportunity to lead.

We're looking for a Design Manager to join a major water contractor delivering high-value projects across programmes for United Utilities, Scottish Water and Yorkshire Water.

You don't necessarily need to already have “Design Manager” on your CV. If you're a Senior Engineer with strong water-sector experience who's ready to step into leadership, this could be the opportunity to make that move.

What does the role look like?

You'll provide technical direction across multiple water projects, working closely with Delivery teams to make sure designs are practical, efficient and ready to perform beyond the drawing board.

You'll have the freedom to challenge designs, identify better technical solutions and influence how projects are delivered.

Your role will include:

  • Leading multidisciplinary engineering and design teams
  • Providing technical direction across multiple water projects
  • Identifying design issues and driving practical solutions
  • Managing technical teams against project programmes and budgets
  • Supporting projects through design, construction and commissioning
  • Contributing to preconstruction design, estimating and cost planning
  • Developing the Engineers within your team

Who are we looking for?

Water industry experience is essential.

Beyond that, we're interested in someone with a strong engineering background who is ready to take genuine responsibility for people and projects.

You'll ideally have:

  • A Degree, HND or HNC in Engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience at Senior Engineer or Design Manager level
  • Strong knowledge of water and wastewater engineering
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary design teams
  • Good understanding of the wider project lifecycle
  • Confidence dealing with clients, senior management and delivery teams
  • The ability to lead, develop and get the best from other Engineers

These requirements reflect the supplied Design Manager brief, including its emphasis on multidisciplinary leadership, water and wastewater technical competence and project lifecycle experience.

Why make the move?

For an established Design Manager, it's the chance to lead high-value projects for some of the UK's major water companies.

You'll receive £70,000 to £80,000 plus a £5,500 car allowance, with a strong hybrid working arrangement from Warrington. That flexibility also means candidates living further afield can be considered.

The wider package includes private healthcare, 31 days' holiday rising to 33, pension, professional fees paid, holiday buy and sell and an EV/hybrid car scheme.

If you've built your career in the water industry and you're ready to have more influence over how projects and people are led, we'd like to hear from you.
