Our client is a worldwide manufacturing organisation who are looking for a Process Engineer to join their Special Cables Manufacturing facility in the Southampton Area. The Special Cables facility produces copper conductor cables for energy transmission.

Working as a member of the Special Cables Process Engineering team, the key responsibilities of this role will be to apply engineering solutions to support and improve all aspects of the manufacturing processes such as product quality, material efficiency and productivity. Although the role is office based, considerable time is spent in manufacturing areas. The role may require occasional work-time flexibility to complete projects around factory hours.

Role/Responsibilities:

  • Use Lean/Six Sigma tools to continuously improve production.

  • Identify and achieve material and productivity cost savings.

  • Interpret design specifications and create clear process instructions.

  • Technically support the introduction of new materials.

  • Commission new manufacturing equipment.

  • Support daily operations, including fault finding and problem solving.

  • Assist in preventative maintenance and safety inspections.

  • Develop the tooling and equipment supply chain.

  • Produce CAD drawings to communicate to external resources and subcontractors.

  • Complete monthly reports and monitor relevant key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Establish and maintain technical and training documentation.

  • Support the NOVO continuous improvement process

 

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Educated to Degree level in a technical/engineering discipline such as Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Materials Science & Engineering.

  • Previous experience in a continuous improvement manufacturing environment.

  • Knowledge of OEE, Kaizen, six-sigma, 6S, SPC, and SMED would be an advantage.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power-Point)

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Good interpersonal skills, communication, and presentation capability.

  • A good understanding of audits, health and safety, environment and COSHH.

  • Autonomous; able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Confident to co-ordinate with cross functional teams.
  • Highly self-motivated with a keen, hands-on approach
