An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Test Rig Design Engineer (Fluid Systems) to work for Rolls-Royce SMR in Derby or Warrington on projects that will contribute to the global reduction of carbon emissions. This is a unique opportunity to be involved in the design project for a new nuclear power station and the establishment of a world-class testing capability.

Blueprint Recruitment, working with Rolls-Royce SMR and Morson RPO, is looking for a talented and ambitious engineer to join Rolls-Royce SMR’s innovative and dynamic Test Capability Team.

About the Role:

The Test Rig Design Engineer (Fluid Systems) will be responsible for the development of test rigs which provide data for complex fluid system problems. The test rig designs will be developed through a series of reviews, requiring the use of systems engineering techniques to develop robust solutions.

The Development Engineering organisation itself has responsibilities for proving that the SMR power station design meets its objectives and requirements. This will encompass the area of nuclear engineering, as well as the broader scope of delivering a major infrastructure project.

About You:

You will be a Chartered Engineer (or working towards professional accreditation) and will have a degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences, or a related discipline. You will also have:

  • Knowledge of fluid mechanics and thermodynamic fundamentals, as well as process system design experience which has been gained from any process plant industry
  • Familiarity with systems engineering principles is desirable
  • Strong planning and organisational skills and great communication skills
  • A willingness to challenge conventional thinking, and the desire to make a difference

Key Responsibilities of the Role will be:

  • Applying systems and process engineering techniques to develop test rigs from preliminary concept through to detailed design and operation
  • Defining and managing test rig requirements, including systems, installations, and controls and instrumentation requirements
  • Developing engineering assessments, such as undertaking fluid flow analyses and to size vessels and define heat exchanger requirements
  • Developing test rigs that are safe by design and supporting the production of HAZOPs and FMECAs
  • Developing design documentation, including P&IDs and system descriptions
  • Working in a multidisciplinary engineering team to deliver an optimised test rig
  • Working with power station design teams, suppliers and external test houses
  • Acting as a technical representative for assigned test rigs at technical and project reviews
