This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Commissioning Engineer to support the delivery of major water and wastewater process engineering projects across the full commissioning lifecycle. There are two positions available – one in Hertfordshire and one in Surrey. The roles can be engaged Inside or Outside IR35 and will suit engineers with strong hands-on commissioning experience who are comfortable overseeing installation, testing, systems integration and final handover. You’ll work closely with design teams, suppliers, subcontractors and client teams, combining technical commissioning responsibilities with site supervision, programme coordination and quality assurance. The Role You’ll be involved in: · Delivering commissioning across water and wastewater process projects · Providing commissioning input from design through to final handover · Developing commissioning plans, procedures and associated documentation · Undertaking hands-on commissioning activities · Leading Factory and Site Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT) · Witnessing and inspecting installation, testing and subcontractor commissioning activities · Coordinating electrical and mechanical installation and commissioning · Reviewing electrical and mechanical schematics, FDS and P&IDs · Configuring and calibrating analytical equipment and integrating monitoring systems · Managing defects, snagging and technical close-out · Reviewing and approving RAMS for commissioning activities · Monitoring supply-chain performance and driving improvements · Coordinating third-party engineers and specialist subcontractors · Supporting Early Contractor Involvement through site surveys and system reviews · Managing process and M&E scope, programme and design changes · Troubleshooting technical issues and implementing practical solutions · Capturing installation, testing and commissioning records · Providing progress reports and updates to project management teams · Delivering training to client operations and maintenance teams · Acting as a front-line supervisor during installation and commissioning phases What They’re Looking For · 5+ years’ experience, preferably within a water-sector commissioning role · Previous experience working for a main contractor on water and wastewater process engineering projects · HNC / Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline, or an engineering apprenticeship and NVQ with suitable experience · Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical installation and commissioning · Proven experience taking projects through installation, commissioning and handover · Ability to interpret electrical/mechanical schematics, FDS and P&IDs · Knowledge of relevant standards, safety rules and statutory legislation · Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving capabilities · Ability to lead site teams where required · Confident client-facing communication skills · Strong organisational skills with the ability to self-manage · ECS (CSCS) card · Water Hygiene card · SSSTS or SMSTS · BS 7671 18th Edition · First Aid at Work CompEx qualifications and professional registration/membership would be advantageous. The successful candidate may also undertake an Electrical AP or Mechanical AP role, subject to assessment and training.
